| The iconic Porthole in Bowness is back as Porto Restaurant with an exciting young chef and an European-inspired menu. Housed in a grade II listed building dating back to the 16th century, Porto Restaurant, located conveniently on Ash Street a short stroll from Lake, is a new restaurant that opened in December 2010. The porthole door will ring a bell with Lakeland diners as The Porthole was a fixture of the Bowness dining scene for many years. It’s now on the way back to its former glories with an exciting young chef who’s returned to his Cumbrian roots after working with Gordon Ramsay and at Michelin-starred Northcote Manor. The menu is European inspired with a varied daytime selection and a more refined and upmarket evening menu. The venue is steeped in history and draped with beautiful feature wall paper and decadent chandeliers with a large upstairs dining room and roof terrace and a great table for two if you can snag it, on a private balcony overlooking Ash Street. Open from noon til late every day. |
